Developing a European Business-to-business Buy Social Market
This workshop invites the EN community and wider network to find out more about a pilot initiative which is currently laying the foundations for a European business-to-business Buy Social market. Three EN members (Social Enterprise UK, Social Entrepreneurship Netzwerk Deutschland and Social Enterprise Republic of Ireland) are working in partnership with EN and Social Enterprise World Forum to develop a corporate-facing European 'social procurement' programme. This builds on the learnings from the first six years of the Buy Social Corporate Challenge initiative in the UK and the growing interest in social procurement among forward-thinking global corporations.
There will be a short presentation of how the pilot has been set up and the learnings so far, and we would like the EN community to feed in comments, challenges and suggestions to help us collectively grow this market. A Chemical Engineer with a Master's degree in Energy with distinction (Heriot-Watt University), Rosa is the CEO & Founder of Science for Change, a company that seeks to bring science closer to society with co-creation and dialogue with quadruple helix stakeholders at its core, and the creator of the citizen science app OdourCollect (Singular Project Prize #Prismas2021).
With more than 15 years of experience in odours and citizen science, Rosa coordinates the European projects D-NOSES and NEWSERA, plus the Catalan cluster of the TRANSFORM project. She advises the "Science in Parliament" initiative, as well as the Mutual Learning Exercise on citizen science launched by the EC with 11 Member States on 2022. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA).
Currently, Rosa is working towards a technical standard to monitor odour pollution through citizen science to facilitate the upscaling of the methodology and the official uptake of citizen-generated data by

John Kearns is Chief Executive of Partas, a social enterprise with over 60 staff, working to foster entrepreneurship, business training and social economy since 1984. Partas operates four Enterprise Centres and a micro-loan fund and conducts research on a national and EU level into many areas of social and economic policy, particularly self-employment and social entrepreneurship. Partas has also developed a range of innovative new projects such as Ireland’s first social enterprise brewery (Priory Brewing), artisan food hub (The County Fare) and a new co-working hub (The Edge).
